For most transaction types there is an advanced option to change the transaction type.
This is an advanced function for admin users. It would be rare that you would want to change a receipt to a payment.
The main reason this feature exists is because data is often imported from legacy software products and the imported transaction type doesn't match with the type required.
Each transaction type has it's own validation rules, for example, if you're entering a journal there is less validation required when entering specific transactions. For example a journal entry doesn't require you to allocate an accounts receivable entry line to an invoice. You can alos enter negative amounts on both sides of a journal entry.
If you have reconciled an account, sometimes you don't have an option to re-enter an incorrect transaction for a date because the period has been locked, and you may need to retrospectively change the transaction type (without deleting the entry).
