When trying to connect to an Azure drive you may sometimes experience this issue.
WARNING: TCP connect to (XX.XX.XX.XX : 445) failed
WARNING: Ping to XX.XX.XX.XX failed with status: DestinationHostUnreachable
Your ISP is blocking port 445 at the network level, this is nothing to do with you your home or your modem the issue is with the data centre or phone exchange , so if you are with the following ISP’s you will need to take the following actions:
- TPG, iiNet, Internode – please log into your account online and find the network firewall in settings and disable or turn off
- Optus – they normally don’t block but if they are call their helpdesk and ask them to unblock PORT 445 they normally comply
- Tesltra – normally blocked please call their helpdesk and ask them to unblock PORT 445 never had them refuse and generally they know what this is all about
- Belong and any other Telstra resellers – change ISP as they have not got the ability to unblock the ports feel free to call them and ask if you like.
Note
- A workaround is to use a VPN but it slows everything down a bit
