How do I connect to two separate databases from one workstation?

You may set up a Windows shortcut with command line switches to specify which database the software will open.

In this way you can open two databases (of the same version) from the same client machine (using separate shortcuts).

Creating a shortcut

To create a shortcut:

1. Locate the .exe. This is usually stored in “C:\program files(x86)\Insolvency\Insol5.exe”
   
   
   
   
2. RH click and create the shortcut to your desktop (rename as needed)
   
   
   
   
3. Then RH Click on the shortcut and select Properties to get to the Target
   
   
   
   The file properties will display:
   
   
   
   
4. Update the shortcut target
   
   Add “C:\program files\Insolvency\Insol5.exe” /open=MYSVR\MYINSTANCE~DataBase Name
   
   
5. Click "OK" to save the Shortcut
   
   Your Shortcut is saved.
6. Test
   
   Ensure you can open the software to the correct database by double clicking on the Shortcut.
   
   Your Shortcut is now set up.
   
   
7. Set up a second short cut
   
   Repeat steps 1 to 6 for the second database to connect.

Example

Here is an example of the target in two separate shortcuts linking to separate databases. Edit the properties of a shortcut and enter the target field:

 “C:\Program files\Insolvency\Insol5.exe” /open=MYSVR\MYINSTANCE~Insol2

“C:\Program files\Insolvency\Insol5.exe” /open=MYSVR\MYINSTANCE~MYOTHERDB

Note

There is a space after “Insol5.exe” between “/open”.

Integrated Security

You may use integrated security i.e. a MS Windows log on is required each time you log on to the database using the "/INTSEC" command line switch.

The example command line switch is:

“C:\program files\MYOB\Insolvency\Insol5.exe” /INTSEC

When the /INTSEC switch is used, enter your MS Windows credentials to logon to Insolvency.

Allowing multiple copies of Insol 6 to run

The "/Allowmultiple" switch will open separate copies of the application simultaneously rather than switching you back to the open instance of the application.  The default operation of the software was changed (to switch back to the open instance) because each time you link to the application from an email you end up with multiple copies of the application running which causes unwanted versions of the application in memory.

When you have the application running and you want to run a second copy of the application, hold the CTR key while opening the application.
