How to schedule a backup using a maintenance plan in SQL Server Management Studio

Users with the full edition of SQL Server can schedule a backup using the SQL Server maintenace wizard.

Open SQL Server Manage Studio, connect to your server and then in the explorer pane open the  Management folder and right click on Maintenance Plans and select the Maintenance Plan Wizard.

2 Give the maintenance plan an appropriate name

3. Choose Back Up Database (Full)

4 Select the database to backup

​

5. Set the backup schedule so that the plan run automatically. We recommend you set this to run outside of normal business hours.

Finish the maintenance plan wizard, and the agent should run the plan as scheduled.  We recommend occasionally checking the backup destination folder to make sure it has worked and the backup file has been created.
